What Is Meta Verified? – Is It Worth The Money?

Table of Contents

Earlier this year, Meta announced the launch of a new subscription service called Meta Verified. This service, currently being tested in select countries, offers users the classic blue verification tick and additional features on Facebook and Instagram for a monthly fee of $11.99.

Meta Verified is the company’s first action towards paid verification, following in the footsteps of platforms like X, Snapchat, YouTube, Discord, and others.

What Is Meta Verified?

The verification blue badge has been on all of Meta’s products for years, including Facebook and Instagram. However, recently, the company followed a different approach to the paid verification system as it has been an industry trend to pay for verification; the latest before Meta was Twitter, X.com now.

Unlike the traditional free verification blue checkmark on Meta’s products, the new verification system update provides more unique features and support.

The new and updated verification system includes:

  • Verification Badge: The blue verification tick lets followers know an account is authentic. To get verified, users submit a government ID and a selfie video.
  • Account Monitoring: Monitoring helps detect impersonator accounts misusing names and images.
  • Live Account Support: Subscribers can access live chat support for common account issues.
  • Exclusive Creative Features: These include exclusive stickers for Stories and Reels and 100 free Stars (A feature that allows you to monetize your visual content) per month on Facebook to support creators.

To be eligible for Meta Verified, you must be based in one of the select regions Meta supports and over 18 years old.

While announcing Meta Verified was a late addition after the whole Twitter Blue thing, it added what Twitter lacked at the time: a feature to prevent impersonation.

How Much Does Meta Verified Cost?

The question now that roams the minds of every business owner and marketer operating on one of Meta’s platforms, Facebook or Instagram, is how much does Meta Verified cost

Meta has set prices for every country around the world to be more compatible with the purchasing power of every country and their currency. Meta Verified is available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and India. Meta has also announced plans to make the service available in Brazil soon.

Here are the current prices of Meta Verified around the world:

  • $11.99/month in the US on the web and $14.99/month on iOS and Android devices.
  • AUD 19.99 a month in Australia on the web and AUD 24.99/month on iOS and Android devices.
  • NZD 23.99/month in New Zealand on the web and NZD 29.99/month on iOS and Android devices.
  • £9.99/month in the UK on the web and £11.99/month on iOS and Android devices.
  • Rs 599/month in India on the web and Rs 699/month on iOS and Android devices.

Benefits and Drawbacks Of Meta Verified

While not the first or the best in the verification process game, Meta Verified offers a wide variety of features that put it on the map for success against any other platform that’s competing with Meta.

The benefits of Meta Verified, for now, include:

  • Verification Badge: The blue verification badge lets followers know an account is authentic. To get verified, users submit a government ID and a selfie video.
  • Account Monitoring: Monitoring helps detect impersonator accounts misusing names and images.
  • Live Account Support: Subscribers can access live chat support for common account issues.
  • Exclusive Creative Features: These include exclusive stickers for Stories and Reels and 100 free Stars (A feature that allows you to monetize your video and audio content) per month on Facebook to support creators.

Competitors, like X.com, have features like:

  • Edit post: A 1-hour window to make limited changes to published posts.
  • Half ads: See approximately 50% fewer ads in the For You and Following timelines.
  • Longer posts: Longer posts allow subscribers to post up to 25,000 characters.
  • Text formatting: You can bold and italicize text in your posts on x.com.
  • Custom app icons: With Custom App icons, you can change how your X App icon displays on your phone. Choose from several colorful options. Check your settings regularly for new featured looks available for a limited time.
  • Custom navigation: This feature lets you decide what appears in your navigation bar.
  • Undo post: Undo post allows you to retract a post after you send it but before it’s visible to others on X.
  • Longer video upload: Upload videos up to ~3 hours long and up to 8 GB file size.
  • Themes: Premium Themes let users decide from colorful options for your app theme.
  • SMS two-factor authentication: Add another layer of protection to your account with access to two-factor authentication via SMS.
  • Create a Community: Create a Community that anyone can join.

While it seems like Twitter has many more features to offer in its package, it’s worth mentioning that most of these features were already present for free on Facebook and Instagram and still are.

Meta Verified is still unavailable worldwide and does not support brands or companies, only individuals.

Is Meta Verified Worth Money?

Is it worth your money to subscribe to the new Meta Verified program?

From a marketing point of view, the only real benefit of subscribing to Meta Verified is increased visibility and reach

It’s still an expensive gimmick and doesn’t ensure real help other than the blue badge and the reach. That’s it. Every other feature on Meta platforms is available for free.

Meta Verified is worth the money for small businesses, creators, or online influencers who need better visibility on Meta platforms. For the average user, however, it only offers a little.

So, hold to your guns until the program is released to other countries with more and better features.
